Spoken Word aims to hit the right note

It’s music and more at this year’s Birmingham, Sandwell and Westside Jazz Festival: local authors will be there, too.

With venues across the West Midlands, the festival is England’s longest-established jazz and blues festival and one of Europe’s biggest free jazz parties.

This year, New Street Authors will be adding their voices to the soundscape with performances of their writing.  Readings will be a mix of poetry, short stories and extracts from novels.

Confirmed authors so far are; A A Abbott, Dawn Abigail, Lee Benson, Dawn Bolton, Jill Griffin, Jon Hartless, Wanda Pierpont, Martin Tracey and David Wake.

The festival provides three chances to hear readings:

Saturday 16th July, 6pm at Blackheath Library, Rowley Regis

Sunday 17th July, 7pm at Velvet Music Rooms, Broad Street

Saturday 23rd July, 2pm to 5pm at Martineau Gardens, Priory Road

And best of all, these sessions are all free.
